Faba Beans

Faba Beans (Vicia Faba) are field beans also referred to as Fava Beans, Victor Beans and Horse Beans. In the UK there are two types of Faba Beans – winter and spring sowing. Wizard are the winter Beans and the crops are sown between October to December and harvested the following August. Fuego are spring Beans, sown in February and harvested in September. The Fuego variety has become popular because of its pale colour skin and large seed. In addition to Wizard and Fuego, Husky, Sultan, Fury, Pyramid and Babylon varieties are also available in the UK. Faba Beans are an important crop for both human consumption and animal feeds. There is a particularly large market in North Africa and the Middle East for Faba Beans.
